Emperor of China Heirloom Mum Rooted Cutting
A true antique — referenced in an 1887 gardening encyclopedia — with shimmering silvery-pink, fully double, quilled flowers that open from dark mauve to burgundy incurved buds. As temperatures drop, its deeply divided foliage turns a striking mahogany-red, giving a two-tone display in the garden even before the blooms open.
Bloom Time: Late season (late September into November)
Bloom Size: Full sprays of double blooms
Plant Height: 2–4 ft
Stem Quality: Upright stems; benefits from staking/support, especially in exposed spots
Best Uses: Cutting and bouquets, fall garden borders, cottage gardens
Growing Notes: Notably more cold-hardy than most florist-type heirloom mums — often listed hardy to Zones 4–9 as a landscape perennial. Long-lasting as a cut flower.
